Hi Colleagues and Community Members:
Many are unaware of how their Social Security benefits will be reduced if they pay/paid into a state or teacher retirement pension plan. The law/act affects people who work(ed) in jobs where Social Security contributions are/were withheld, which includes people who served overseas, spousal benefits and more!
Only 15 states decided to be a part of this unjust act. The Act reduces earned Social Security benefits of those entitled to such. Georgia is one of those states. It takes money that retirees and workers are entitled to receive!
The "Windfall Elimination Provision Act (WEP)" can be repealed in Congress. Please educate yourselves and others about this travesty and join the movement to repeal the WEP. Feel free to share this email. If you need more information or clarity, email us at georgia@aftgeorgia.org.
